Frequently Asked Questions

The Day1Access program is a digital textbook model in collaboration with top publishers to reduce the cost of required course materials. Access for all students begins the first day of class, with the option to opt-out of purchasing through the drop/add period.

Your required digital course materials are delivered through Folio. Access begins the first day of class. Go to My.GeorgiaSouthern.edu, Login, select Folio, and select your course. Not Seeing Your Course in Folio? If you don鈥檛 see a class in Folio, and it starts in less than a week, your instructor may not have made it active. If you are concerned about access, please email your instructor.

Prices are negotiated and vary depending upon the course materials chosen by the instructor but are contracted to be lower than competitive market rates.

If you do not wish to purchase the required course materials through the Day1Access program, you have until the add/drop day to opt-out. If you opt-out by the deadline, access to the online content will be turned off and the cost will not appear on your Student Billing Account found in WINGS/Touchnet.

To Opt-Out, log in to Folio, and there will be a prompt to Opt-Out of the delivery of the digital product. Select the correct option to opt-out and submit. If you opt-out, you will be responsible for purchasing your own materials.

Students who drop the course before the add/drop deadline will automatically be 鈥渙pted-out鈥. There are no refunds for students who drop after the add/drop deadline.

The drop/add deadlines can be found on the Academic Calendar each semester.

Yes. All students who are enrolled in a course using Day1Access are automatically considered part of the program. To avoid paying for the digital materials you must opt-out through your Folio course home page before the add/drop deadline.

Once the cost of the required course materials has been applied to your Student Billing Account, there are no refunds.

Yes, if it is before the add/drop deadline. To opt back in, you will log in to Folio and select the prompt to opt back in. If you do not opt back in before the add/drop date, please visit  for assistance.

All enrolled students receive an injection page in the MyGS portal with information about their Day1Access charges. Students can also click on the 鈥淒ay1Access Course Materials & Costs鈥 link in the Registration Information tile in their MyGS portal to view their Day1Access information at any time.

The access is free through the add/drop date. After that, all enrolled students who have not opted-out of the program or dropped the course will have the discounted price applied to their Student Billing Account. The cost of the required digital content for Day1Access will appear on your Student Billing Account as 鈥淏ookstore Charge.鈥

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles eligible employees at 快猫app短视 to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health plan coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave. Employees are required to use accrued sick and/or vacation leave prior to taking unpaid leave.

Eligible employees are entitled to 12 weeks (480 hours) of leave in a rolling 12-month period for the following qualifying reasons:

  • Your Own Serious Health Condition: A serious mental or physical health condition that makes you unable to work (e.g., surgery, cancer treatment, pregnancy complications).
  • Family Care: To care for your spouse, child, or parent with a serious mental or physical health condition.
  • Bonding: The birth of a child, or the placement of a child with you for adoption or foster care, and to bond with the new child.
  • Military Exigency: Certain qualifying reasons related to the foreign deployment of your spouse, child, or parent who is a military service member.
  • Military Caregiver: Up to 26 weeks of leave to care for a covered service member with a serious injury or illness.

Standard FMLA Process

The following steps are the standard FMLA process for a continuous leave for a Georgia Southern employee, based on the “FMLA Road Map” found in the .

  1. New Leave Request – If the need for leave is foreseeable, you must give 30 days’ notice. If the need is sudden, notify HR as soon as possible. You must submit the to begin the process.
  2. Eligibility Notice – The HR team will send an eligibility notice within 5 business days of receiving your request. Note: Eligibility does not guarantee approval; it confirms you meet the tenure/hours requirements.
  3. Certification Form – You may be required to submit supporting documentation, typically a Medical Certification Form from a healthcare provider. You must return this within 15 calendar days of the request.
  4. Final Designation Notice – Watch your email inbox. HR will review your documentation and notify you if your leave is approved as FMLA-protected and outline your next steps, including submitting your Extended Absence Request.
  5. Communication – Employees on leave are expected to communicate with the HR team. If your leave is close to the full 12-week period, check in every 30 days. You must also notify HR immediately if your dates or condition change.
  6. Return to Work – You must contact the HR team at least 3 business days before your scheduled return. If the leave was for your own medical condition, you must provide a (or doctor’s note) clearing you to work before you can resume duties.

Request Process and FAQs

We recommend submitting your request online through the secure Google Form. Alternatively, you can complete the paper form (Appendix B) and email it to HRBeWell@georgiasouthern.edu

If you know ahead of time that you will need FMLA leave (e.g., for surgery or childbirth), you must give at least 30 days’ notice. If the need for leave comes up suddenly, let the HR team know as soon as you can. 

Yes. Pregnancy can qualify as a serious health condition for prenatal care or incapacity (e.g., bed rest). Following the birth, FMLA covers both the recovery period (medical leave) and bonding time (family leave).

Not all requests meet FMLA rules (e.g., if you haven’t worked 1,250 hours or the condition isn’t “serious”). If you are ineligible, HR will help you explore other options.

FMLA is unpaid, but GS requires you to use accrued sick/vacation leave to remain in paid status. If you exhaust your paid leave and move to unpaid status, you are responsible for paying your portion of benefit premiums to maintain coverage.

If you are enrolled in Short-Term Disability and wish to utilize this benefit during your FMLA leave, please contact MetLife Disability 800-300-4296 directly to open a claim. You must also notify HR of your intent to use this benefit for payroll purposes. Please note that HR cannot initiate or approve Short-Term Disability claims on your behalf. All determinations regarding eligibility and approval are made solely by MetLife.

What is Panorama?

is integrated into Folio course spaces and offers students alternative accessible formats to support different learning styles. These options include Audio Podcast, EPUB to use with ereader devices, Immersive Reader, Gradient Reader, Text File, Braille formats, and many more.
Panorama scans your Folio course space to provide an accessibility score for course and individual documents that include HTML, PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and GIF. Panorama will provide directions on what accessibility issues need to be resolved as well as assistance to directly within content in your Folio course space. While Panorama will help identify and remediate many accessibility issues in Folio, instructors are responsible for ensuring that all of their course content is accessible to all students.

Benefits of Panorama

Panorama enhances the learning experience for all students by providing alternative formats (like braille, audio, or HTML) while allowing instructors to fix accessibility issues directly within the LMS platform. Inline remediation detects and fixes any issues identified within the LMS to provide documents that are accessible within required standards.

Get Started with Your Georgia Southern Resources

East Georgia Campus students, faculty, and staff now have access to to a robust portfolio of technology and other resources. Keep reading to learn more about the new services available to you.

Your MyGeorgiaSouthern Portal

MyGeorgiaSouthern is your gateway to everything Georgia Southern. To retrieve your credentials and activate your account, navigate to and click the 鈥淔irst Time User鈥 button. Follow the prompts on the screen to get your user information and activate your account. 

Pro Tip: Have your smart phone available when you鈥檙e ready to complete this process so that you can enroll in Duo鈥檚 Multifactor Authentication service. Want to take a tour? Check out the 鈥淢yGS Tutorial Videos鈥 tile.

Email, Calendar, Drive

Georgia Southern is a Google partner school, which means you now have access to the G Suite of applications, including Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and much more. It鈥檚 everything you need in one 鈥渟uite鈥 package. To access these services, select them in the 鈥淢yApps鈥 tile in your MyGS portal. 

Beginning May 11, 2026, all new email will be received in your Georgia Southern email account. On May 11, we’ll also begin migrating your email and OneDrive materials from your East Georgia email account, so you’ll see messages and files start to appear in your Georgia Southern account. By May 18, all of your email and OneDrive content will be migrated and you will no longer access your East Georgia email account, but you鈥檒l still need your East Georgia credentials to access services through the Summer semester.

Fall registration, which opens for select groups in March 2026, begins with a meeting with your advisor to chart your course for the semester. As a Georgia Southern student, you may have an Advisement Hold that can be cleared when you meet with your advisor. You鈥檒l receive more information about how to remove this hold via the MyGS portal, so check back often.听

While registration for Fall classes may look a little different than what you鈥檙e used to, your Academic Success Advisor is happy to help. Click the button below to reach out to your ASA for assistance.

Currently, you鈥檙e using the Brightspace D2L learning management system, accessible via the myEGSC portal, to submit course assignments, engage in class discussions, and everything else that you need in your virtual classrooms. You鈥檒l continue to utilize this resource for your Spring and Summer courses. 

Beginning Fall 2026, you鈥檒l use Folio, Georgia Southern鈥檚 virtual classroom environment, which is also powered by Brightspace D2L. The platform will look very similar to the D2L environment that you鈥檙e used to, but will be accessed via the 鈥淔olio鈥 widget in your MyGS portal.

DegreeWorks is a web-based program that provides easy access for advisors and students to track courses completed and plan for those still needed in preparation for registration and graduation. All East Georgia Campus students can access DegreeWorks via the “Advisement Resources” tile in your MyGS portal.

For the Fall 2026 term, you鈥檒l need to complete attendance verification to ensure that you鈥檙e not charged for a course you鈥檙e not taking. Attendance verification is done via a quiz in Folio. 

This is a new process for you, so don鈥檛 worry if you鈥檙e not sure how to complete it right now. You鈥檒l receive instructions on how and when to complete this process via the MyGS portal at the start of the term.

The Fall 2026 Housing Application is available. To apply to live in a residence hall on the Swainsboro Campus, complete the housing application via the 鈥淥n-Campus Housing Portal鈥 link in the 鈥淐ampus Life鈥 tile in your MyGS portal.

You may already be familiar with the MyHelp ticketing system if you鈥檝e submitted a ticket for a housing issue or a technology issue. If you鈥檝e logged in before, you probably created a guest account to submit your issue. However, you are now able to sign into MyHelp using your MyGS credentials. This will allow you to quickly submit and keep track of all your tickets in one place. 

Pro Tip: You may need to log out and log back in with your MyGS credentials.

GS Premium is Georgia Southern鈥檚 premiere wifi network, which you have access to with your new MyGS credentials. This certificate-based network ensures a faster, more reliable connection. Use the resources below to get connected.

The LiveSafe app provides two-way, real-time interactions with Public Safety that include text, calls, photos and videos. The app also provides relevant safety resources and peer-to-peer safety tools and is available as a free download for all Georgia Southern students, faculty and staff.

The Eagle Card Mobile ID is similar to the Mobile CatCard that you currently use. You can now download your Eagle Card Mobile ID via the Transact (eAccounts) app. If you’re signed in with your EGSC credentials, you may need to sign out and sign back in with Georgia Southern credentials.

Dining plans are available for East Georgia Campus students for Fall 2026. You can view, purchase or upgrade your meal plan using the “Purchase a Dining Plan” link in your MyGS portal.
