You are some of our greatest partners in supporting students, and identifying when they might need some additional care, support, or interventions. This page highlights some of the most frequently used resources that you can assist you in supporting our Eagles:
This is not an exhaustive list. Therefore, it is always appropriate to contact the Dean of Students Office for advice and guidance.
Resources
Concern for a Student: If you are concerned for a student’s wellbeing, please complete the referral form below. Examples of potentially concerning behavior:
- Sudden changes in behavior, mood, or attendance
- Behaving out of character in class, causing general concern for the health or mental wellbeing
- Expressions of distress, hopelessness, or being overwhelmed
- Reports of significant personal challenges (loss, illness, crisis)
- Concerns about safety or wellbeing
- Anything that makes you believe that the student might benefit from outreach from the Dean of Students Office and additional resources and support
The mission of the Behavior Assessment Team (BAT) is to identify resources and appropriate interventions for students experiencing a crisis. Our team provides a caring program to balance the individual needs of students and the shared needs of the community.
When to refer a student to the Behavior Assessment Team:
A referral should be made to BAT if an individual displays the following behaviors:
- Threat of harm toward self or others
- Speaking or writing that seems bizarre
- Drug/alcohol use to a dangerous level
- Suicidal ideation
- Violent fantasy content
- Anger problems
- Fascination with weapons
- Homicidal ideation
- ٲ쾱Բ
- Obsession with previous shooting situations
- Victim/martyr self-concept
- ʲԴǾ
- Violence and cruelty
- Mental health history related to dangerousness
- Unusual interest in police, military, terrorist activities and materials
Behavior Assessment Team – Learn more about the team.
Faculty Notifications: Students can request that the Dean of Students Office notify their faculty when they will be absent from class. If a student’s faculty notification request is approved, you and the student will be included in the communication from the Dean of Students Office. Request are typically reviewed within 3 business days. The final decision can take up to two weeks, if the student is asked to provide additional documentation.
Sample language to add to your syllabi:
The Dean of Students Office offers a verification service for student-provided information regarding necessary absences, illnesses, or extenuating life events. The university does not issue excuses for class absences and a faculty notification is not an excuse for missing class. If you experience an unplanned absence, you are encouraged to submit a .
Be sure to keep the following in mind when submitting a Faculty Notification Request:
- Students must submit completed (with supporting documentation) faculty notification requests within seven (7) business days from the first date of absence.
- Requests received after seven (7) business days from the first date of absence will not be considered/reviewed.
- Submission of any fraudulent documentation could result in a Student Conduct case for the student named in the request.

Helping Eagles Recognize Distress & Offer Support
Mental health issues are an increasing concern on our campuses, and this folder has been designed to assist you in supporting students, faculty or staff. You are vitally important in identifying and helping individuals in distress or those at risk for suicide. The information in this folder provides tools for you to recognize individuals in distress and connect them with appropriate resources. You strengthen our community by creating a network of support.

What is classroom disruption? The èapp Student Conduct Code defines classroom disruption as;
- Any classroom behavior that interferes with the instructor’s ability to conduct class, failure to conform to the faculty member’s announced expectations for the classroom, or the ability of other Students to learn.
- Use of cell phones or other electronic devices for voice or text communication in class, unless permitted by the faculty member.

Faculty should report all incidents of academic dishonesty using the dedicated form. Once submitted, our office will review prior history and guide the resolution process. The Informal Resolution Form will be sent to you to resolve the case yourself or request additional documentation of the violation for the case to be heard and resolved within the Provost’s Office and/or the Office of Student Conduct.

The Dean of Students Office is committed to treating all members of the University community fairly in regard to their personal and professional concerns. The primary objective of the student complaint guidelines is to ensure that students voices can be heard and they receive a response from the appropriate person regarding concerns they raise through the student complaint procedures.
For these purposes, an issue or concern is defined as dissatisfaction or disagreement with any decision by the institution; it’s faculty, staff or administration which affects Georgia Southern students.

is responsible for ensuring èapp complies with applicable laws and policies regarding discrimination on the basis of age, color, disability, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, or veteran status (“protected status”).
This office also:
- Receives complaints for sexual misconduct (i.e., sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, dating violence, domestic violence, etc.
- Receive complaints for other types of harassment and discrimination (i.e., directed slurs or insults, different treatment by faculty or employers, violence, etc., based on a protected class).
- Provides support for pregnant and parenting students, receives complaints for sexual misconduct (i.e., sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, dating violence, domestic violence, etc.).
